This is greatly dependent on the condition and the person being treated.
In general response to physical injury is quicker than chronic internal conditions. We usually ask the patient to commit to four treatments to assess the patient's situation and their response to treatment and herbal formulas. By this time, results and progress can usually be clearly evaluated. Chronic illness often requires 3-4 treatments to untangle any complexities and understand the best path forward.
For initial treatments 1 hour appointments are usually recommended to allow for treatment time after discussing and diagnosis to understand the condition, discussing treatment options and prescribing an herbal formula. Follow-up treatment sessions usually last for 30-40 minutes unless otherwise specified or requested.
Subsequent visits are focused on physical treatments and making ensuring progress continues to occur. Most patients should expect to be prescribed an herbal regimen to follow, as taking herbs is often the most profound way to affect the condition of the body, and is similar to receiving a treatment twice every day.
Although Chinese medicine has a long history of treating a wide variety of diseases, there are still many areas which are as of yet unexplored by modern research.
