7th November 2021 Wang Fengyi ‘s Birthday
The following post is in celebration of the birth of Wang Fengyi, on the 3rd day of the 10th lunar month in the year of 1864, which falls on the 7th November in the solar calendar in 2021. Wang Fengyi is considered a Confucian sage, as part of the Shan Ren Dao movement, he also cured many people, often from the poor countryside, with his healing system that based the root of all illness and disease within one’s emotions. The story presented here is from chapter 18 [working draft] of Wang Fengyi’s magnum opus ‘The Record of the Words and Deeds of Wang Fengyi’ 王凤仪⾔⾏录, which contains more than 200 acconts of his life. This chapter revolves around the passing of his beloved mother, to whom he showed deep parental respect throughout his life:

The Passing of the Compassionate Mother

I heard Wang, the Benevolent, say it like this:
My mum’s illness became very severe in the 12th month of that year when she was fifty years of age. I knew that she could not get well. She was old but still very receptive. Three days before facing death, her body in suffering pains yelled out ‘Aya-Aya’, so I asked my mother: ‘In your old heart what do you have constantly on your mind?’ My mother said: ‘I just constantly think about my 4th son. Because he is fond of betting (gambling), he has spoiled his name on the outside. I fear that after my death there is no one who will provide him with a young woman and he will , stay single his entire life. Even when I die I cannot resolve my heart.’ I said: ‘Rest this issue with me. You, my elder, be at ease, and it is all good. There is me, who will certainly make him get married and be with a family, and I will absolutely make him not be a single.’ Once my mum heard this, her essence and spirit was raised immediately and explained to me cause and effect of three generations of the family clan, relatives and friends – Whatever family had done what kind of good things will gain what kind of good retribution, whatever family had done what kind of bad things will encounter what kind of evil retribution. She explained it in detail continuously for three days and three nights. She even more exhorted me to do many good deeds. She, the elder, counted on explaining precisely the true principle that ‘the families who accumulate goodness will certainly have a surplus of celebrations and the families who accumulate badness will certainly have a surplus of calamities. At last she, the elder, said: ‘I have a son like you, so I can be at ease. She said so and passed away with a smile on her face. Due to this matter I understood, that if people resolve the matters of their heart, they will be granted a natural death. Consequently, I constantly advise people to become a ‘Living Dead Person’, in order to be granted the attainment of the dao.
