Sun Xiang Yong 孙向勇 demonstrating Power emission 发力 from the Yi Quan 意拳 system of traditional Chinese martial arts. Although it looks like a beautiful backdrop, this was really for demonstration purposes only as this kind of humid, misty mountain environment does not really suit this kind of training. Gentler, more Qi based training is appropriate here, but in Yi Quan much of the training requires the tendons and connective tissues to stretch and contract quickly and more strongly than in a style such as Tai Ji Quan. In this environment, training this for long periods of time can cause several of the six external factors of disease 六淫, in this season cold 寒 and dampness 湿, to penetrate into the tendons and bones causing all kinds of issues with the joints and potential other illnesses.

When we started the Purple Cloud Institute, our aim was to make accessible educational material about traditional Chinese cultural practices. We strive to keep prices of our books as affordable as possible and the content we provide free of charge. However, there are many ongoing behind the scenes costs and the time taken to provide such content is considerable.
